The American Jets are proud to be associated with a staff of highly qualified trainers under the direction of John Markey, Director of Coaching, and  Sarah Strickland ,Girls' Director of Coaching.  The dedication of these individuals is the key to the success of the club and the foundation for the future of our program.  

 

 

Robert  Starr-  Robert currently holds a USSF “A” License.  He has coached the American Jets ’88 Blue and Lady Jets ’93 Blue to state championships in their respective age groups.  Former collegiate goalkeeper at UAB and served as the men’s assistant at UAB for seven years, including an “Elite Eight” appearance in the 1999 NCAA Tournament.  He has coached club soccer for the past 12 years, including several state champions on the boys and girls side.  Robert is currently the Head Varsity Coach for the Spain Park High School Girls Soccer team, 6A State Champions in 2004, and has also taken Vestavia High School (2001 Champions) and Hoover High School to the 6A State Finals.

 

 

Greg Bassett – Greg has a USSF “C” license and NSCAA license.  His coaching experience includes the American Jets 88, 17 years of high school soccer and 32 years of club soccer.  He played 2 years of soccer for Florida Atlantic.

 

Justus Griffin - Justus has a USSF “B” license.  He is also a member of the Alabama ODP Staff. He has been the Assistant Coach for the UAB Blazers for 9 years. Justus played soccer for Hinds Community College , three years for UAB, and one year professionally with the Chattanooga Express (EISL). He helped lead the Blazers to the programs first conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 1994.  He was selected to the Great Midwest All-Newcomer Team in 1992.

 

 

Dave  Dresbach Dave has a USSF "B" license and a NSCAA Diploma. He has coached the American Jets 93 Blue and 93 Red teams, College Division I for 3 years, and professionally with the U.S.I.S.L for 2 years. Dave has coached Alabama and Florida Olympic Development Program teams for 15 years. He played professionally in the A.S.L for 3 years, U.S.I.S.L for 3 years, and Collegiately for Div. I, Mercer University 4 years. He was named TAAC-Div.I All-Conference player 4 years in a row, TAAC-Div.I Player of the Year, Honorable Mention Div.I All-American, and CoSID/GTE Academic All-American.

 

 

Jennifer Rawlings-  Jennifer has a USSF “C” License.She has coached the American Lady Jets 92 Blue and Red, youth soccer for 7 years, high school soccer for 1 year and college soccer for 3 years. She also has coached for the Olympic Development Program for 5 years. Jennifer played for the University of Virginia for 4 years, in the Semi-pro Women’s League for 4 years and the National US Pool for 3 years. She was an ODP player in Georgia for 8 years. Jennifer was named College Regional All American and Parade High School All-American. Jennifer was name Georgia High School Player of the Year and had her jersey retired. She was an ODP Regional Team player for 4 yrs and 2nd all time career assists leader at University of Virginia where she played for April Heinrichs (U.S. National Women's Coach).

 

 

Justin Pratt- Justin has coached the American Jets 90 and 91 Blue, Collegiate Division II for 2 years and several other club teams for 8 years. He played for UAB Division I for 4 years and professionally (A-League) for 3 years in Indianapolis and El Paso . He was a two time conference champion in 1995 and 1999.  He was part of the NCAA Elite Eight appearance in 1999.  He was a first round draft pick in the 2000 A-League Draft.

 

 

 

Trey Knox- Trey has a USSF “D” License.  He has coached American Lady Jets 89 Red team, Recreational soccer for 1 year, and summer camps for 5 years.  Trey played for the University of Alabama Huntsville for 4 years, semi-pro for the Birmingham Saints for 3 years, and semi-pro for the Clarksville Gunners for 1 year.

 

 

 

Ross Comeaux - Ross has coached the American Soccer Club Lady Jets 91 White. He as also coached various camps for boys and girls U-12 through U-19 for the last 10 years. He played soccer for the University of Alabama at Huntsville on a four year scholarship setting a University record for assists and total point which are still current. He was team captain for 3 years. Ross was voted to First Team All American team in 1997 and was also voted to All-Southern Region 3 from 1995-1997. He won the Gulf South Conference Co-MVP in 1997. Ross played two years of A-league with the Nashville Metros 1998-1999. In 1998 the team had the third best record in the league during regular season. He was voted to A-league team of the week in September of 1999.

 

 

Joe Bassett – Joe, new to the program, has coached the American Jets 92 White team.  He played for Birmingham Southern College for 4 years. Joe has worked many soccer camps throughout the east coast and thoroughly enjoys coaching youth soccer

 

 

 

 

STEVE VOLTZ-Steve holds the NSCAA National and Advanced Nat'l Diplomas, both with Distinction. Steve is the girls soccer coach at Shades Valley HS. Born in Offenbach Germany , he grew up playing for a club called SG Rosenhoehe. He played in several National and International tournaments across Europe until he was 17. He moved to the United States in his Junior year of High School, and played 2 years of Varsity Soccer at Melbourne High School (District Champs and Final 8 in State). After high school, he played for the University of Florida Men 's team for two years. He then went back to Germany and played for a club in Frankfurt Germany . Steve has coached at Gainesville HS and Bartram Trail HS, both in FL. He also coached for the Jacksonville Youth Soccer Club.

 

Chuck Williams-Chuck comes to the club from Raleigh NC.  He holds a USSF "D" License. His coaching experience includes both boys and girls teams, from middle school to varsity, recreational to premiere. He is currently a coach for Boys Varsity at Indian Springs School.

 

 

 

 

MarK Wallace-Mark is currently the coach of the Jets 94 white team. Mark got an early introduction to the sport while living in England for 3 years as a pre-teen. Upon his return to the states, Mark played for the Springfield youth club and the Annandale boys club in N. Virginia. After high school Mark played 2 years for the 5th ranked Prince Georges CC mens team in Maryland and played his last 2 years as a midfielder for James Madison University. He has coached boys high school varsity soccer for 8 years in N. Virginia at George Mason High School, 8 years with the Briarwood Diplomats, 3 years in Northern Ireland in a Christian soccer ministry which included coaching the U-16 Dundrum FC team and 2 years as the Briarwood High School boys head coach. Mark holds a Northern Irish FA coaching license.

 

 

 

Emily Churchill began her coaching career as a player in Fairfax , Virginia .  She was a long time native of the WAGS Program participating in the prestigious league for over 10 years.  After winning several Virginia State Championships and the WAGS Tournament Cup Flight playing for the Chantilly Hot Spurs and Braddock Road Bleu Belles, Emily continued her soccer career at Georgia Southern University.  As an Eagle, Emily earned many honors, including a starting role for the NCAA Division 1 team as a Freshmen and again in her Sophomore year.  Emily took the last year off from her collegiate career to focus on coaching where she assisted John Markey, American Soccer Director of Coaching, with the 1989 Alabama State Champions, the Lady Jets 89 Blue; as well as the 1991 State Finalists, the Lady Jets 91 Blue.    Emily has her USSF “E” license and is enrolling in the “D” course this fall.  Emily is the current coach for the Lady Jets 90 Blue; as well as the Lady Jets 91 Red.

 

Robert Rawlings- grew up playing in the Nationally ranked AFC Lightning club out of Atlanta. Robert was an All-State player in Georgia for McIntosh High School and went on to play club soccer at the University of Alabama. At Alabama, Robert was a part of the team that went on to Nationals and tied the eventual National champion. Robert started his coaching with Inter-city youths in Tuscaloosa.

Johnny Markey-from Birmingham, Alabama was an important part of the 2005 6A Alabama State championship team while at Oak Mountain High school. His high school not only won the 6A state title but was also crowned NSCAA high school National Champions. He was named to the All Tournament team as well as an All-Metro player. John has also been a member of the Alabama ODP team for the past 6 years. He is attending the University of Montevallo on a soccer scholarship and was an
