JETS PROGRAM STATEMENT

Goal:

As Director of Coaching it is my goal to train the Jets players to reach their personal goal, whatever that may be.  We will strive to give players the skill set needed to make the Alabama State Select team, Regional ODP team, Varsity soccer team at their high school, obtain a college scholarship, competitive enjoyment of the game, or whatever their goal is.  The coaching staff will focus on solid player development utilized to build highly competitive teams.  All players should be confident that their skills will be greatly enhanced through their involvement with the American Jets program.

 Purpose:

To provide soccer players an opportunity to be part of a high quality player development program.  Players should possess a strong desire and commitment to pursue competitive soccer.  It is the intent of the Director of Coaching, as hired by the American Soccer Club, to strive to find a spot on a competitive level team to any player committed to competing at a higher level.  That commitment must be in the form of a strong work ethic, discipline to work on their own to develop their skills, commitment of time to make practices and games and an increased financial commitment.  It is not the intention of the American Soccer Club to turn any player away due to inability to meet financial commitments.  Club scholarships are available if deemed necessary.

 Structure:

The American Soccer Club will have two competitive teams (providing a large enough pool of players exists) at each age level, boys and girls, beginning at Under 11.  The highest level team will be known as the American Jets Blue.  The next level will be known as the American Jets Red.  Should enough players exist within an age level for a third team, it will be known as the American Jets White.

Highly qualified paid skills coaches will be hired for each Jets team.  The Director of Coaching will hire and assign all coaches based on their experience and style of play they coach.  Part of the financial commitment of each player will entail a coach’s fee.  Each team will have a separate team manager to handle the payment of the coach, necessary paperwork, and logistics regarding game schedules, tournaments and team communications.

Each team will be placed in the most competitive level based on the assessment of the team’s skills by the coach and the Director of Coaching.  Teams U13 or higher will be assessed for play in AYSA Division I or Division II.  U11 and U12 teams will play AYSA Division II or Division III (Mid-State) premier, based on assessments.

The Jets teams will be asked to attend certain instate and out of state tournaments that will create the most appropriate development environment.  Some of the older teams will be expected to travel to specific showcase tournaments in order to be seen by regional, national, and college level coaches.  Some tournaments will be gender specific due to the competitiveness of the tournaments.  Although we enjoy winning tournaments, the strength of the field from a developmental standpoint will be the greatest deciding factor.  We will try to organize 1-2 tournaments per season that we will want most Jets teams to attend.  The American Soccer Club will be hosting the “Shelby County Shootout” in the spring of 2005.  All Jets teams will be expected to participate.

There will also be additional training sessions made available to any players wishing to tryout for the Alabama State Select teams.  State Select teams will be formed for boys and girls with birth dates during the calendar years of 1987-1992.  Tryouts will begin in mid-September.  All players will be notified.  If you have questions or concerns you can email me at www.coaching@americansoccer.org.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to this great game,

  John Markey
